Working for WLM

WLM employs over 70 staff in a very wide range of roles. We value our staff as they are on the frontline of delivering our mission. Despite the challenges involved in our work we want to ensure that everyone working for WLM feels safe and supportive so that working for us is rewarding and fun.

These are some of the elements of working for WLM:

Investors in People. We have held this award since 2009 and are reviewed every 3 years. The IiP Assessors report is always published on our intranet.

Engagement and involvement. WLM involves all of its staff, as well as clients and residents and volunteers, in developing its strategy. We have regular away days for each team which feeds into the overall strategy.

Proper training, induction and support. We provide new staff with thorough inductions and invest in our staff's training and development. We have a Vocational Training fund to which staff can apply to help fund courses or give flexible work patterns that aid their professional development. 

Reflective Practice. All of our frontline workers engage in regular Reflective Practice within their teams. These are sessions facilitated by a trained psycologist who helps the team reflect on how the work is impacting them as individuals and as a group.

Let's Hang Out. Every year, we give all staff and interns half day off to participate in one of a number of activities which are suggested by colleagues. In previous years, these activities have included pottery making, trampolening, going on a tasting tour of a brewery, bowling, going to see a film, guided walks and museum trips.  We invest in activities which bring the teams together to enjoy themselves and build relationships across WLM.

Employee Assistance Programme. We offer the use of a free helpline available to anyone who works or volunteers for WLM to access confidential support and advice for a wide range of issues. As a part of this scheme, face to face counselling is offered.

Living Wage Employer. WLM was one of the first thousand organisations to become an accredited Living Wage Employer. For more information visit livingwage.org.uk
