Sleep Out for the Shelter

The West London Day Centre is running it’s second Sleep Out of the year on Friday 16th October 2016. The money raised from Sleep Out for the Shelter will go directly towards coordinating the shelter and supporting guests to move into longer term accommodation.

The Night shelter is coordinated by the West London Day Centre and every night of the week during Winter, a church or synagogue on Westminster opens its doors to provide much needed respite for homeless guests who would otherwise find themselves out on the streets in the cold weather.

Last year’s night shelter provided 56 people street homeless people with temporary accommodation, supported 31 people into longer term housing and helped 8 people find work.

We are holding the Sleep Out for the Shelter in the gardens of St James’ Church Piccadilly who are one of the host venues of the night shelter. Hot refreshments and entertainment will be provided in the evening before we all bed down for the night. In the morning breakfast will be provided inside the church, which will provide an opportunity for collective reflection on our experiences the night before and to discuss why services that the Westminster Churches Night Shelter provide are so vital.

The Sleep Out does not aim to replicate homelessness but provides an opportunity to experience a little of what the homeless guests of the Night Shelter would have to endure without the support of the Night Shelter.

If you would like to join us on Friday 16th October to raise funds for the Night Shelter then follow this link for more information as well as instructions on how to register your place.
